Toys collected for youth in DHS care because no child should go without

The Little Rock Fire Department is asking for the community’s help again this year to carry on a tradition more than 15 years old. LRFD is asking the community to donate toys for Department of Human Services foster children.

Every holiday season the Little Rock Fire Department partners with DHS to collect toys for the boys and girls in the foster care program. LRFD uses its fire stations across the city as collection sites for toy donations. In addition to the fire station donation sites, Little Rock Firefighters can be found at the following four Walmart locations to collect toy donations from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day:

  • 8800 Baseline Road
  • 2700 S. Shackleford Road
  • 19301 Cantrell Road
  • 700 Bowman Road

Firefighters will be collecting donations at all of the stores on the following dates:

  • Friday, November 30
  • Saturday, December 1
  • Friday, December 7
  • Saturday, December 8

The last day to make a donation is set for Thursday, December 13, in order for the Fire Department to help deliver Santa, along with the toys, to DHS on Friday, December 14 at 2 p.m. This will consist of a short parade from the Central Fire Station at Seventh and Chester streets to the DHS office at Seventh and Main streets. Every year DHS greets the firefighters with caroling and holiday cheer.

DHS cares for hundreds of foster children each year, and this year is no different.  DHS is in need of clothes and toys for both girls and boys of all ages as well.
