Training & Professional Development Division

The Training & Professional Development Division primary focus is to develop and provide the highest quality training and education to the members of the Little Rock Fire Department and the public they serve. Compliance with a multitude of complex Federal, State and local standards and regulations is ensured by the actions of this Division. Programs are delivered in the following areas:

  • Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) (for Fire Department members only)
  • Vehicle Extrication
  • Fire Suppression and Emergency Operations
  • Urban Search & Rescue (USAR)
  • Hazardous Materials (HAZMAT)
  • Officer and Career Development
  • Annual Recruit School (IFSAC Certified Firefighter I & II)

Our staff continues to research new equipment, methods, technology and subjects that will improve departmental functions and ensure the safety of all personnel. Routine tasks for the Training Division include:

  • Development of programs
  • Revision of existing curriculum
  • Continuing instructor education
  • Acquisition of new training tools and equipment
  • Employing online training management
  • Participation in applicant and promotional testing

The Training staff consists of four (4) Captains, one (1) Engineer/EMS Coordinator and is supplemented by adjunct instructors throughout the Department. The Training and Professional Development Division is located at the Little Rock Fire Department Training & Support Services Complex at 7000 Murray Street. The facility consists of state-of-the-art classrooms, offices, a physical fitness area and a large outside drill ground. The Drill Tower/Burn Building is the first of its kind in the State of Arkansas, and is equipped with the latest in safety devices to ensure our firefighters are trained appropriately and, more importantly, safely.
