Walking with Vehicles

Consider these safety tips to be safer when walking on and around city streets.

Walking with Vehicles

Walking is a healthy mode of transportation, but safety is also a concern.  Drivers are often more aware of vehicles on the street than other modes of transportation and distracted driving is becoming normalized.  As a result, drivers may not always see pedestrians.

Here are some safety tips to follow when you are walking:

1) Make eye contact with drivers when crossing the street. If you can't establish eye contact, assume the driver does not see you.
2) Follow traffic signals
3) Use crosswalks or intersections
4) When you must walk on the street (i.e. when there is no sidewalk), walk facing oncoming traffic.
5) Don't walk distracted, especially when entering the street
