UALR Trail Focal Area

The UALR Trail Focal Area is the added area connected to the Tri-Creek Greenway via the UALR Trail (Fig 1, blue area).  Residents can access the UALR Trail by riding or walking along residential streets and never crossing an arterial street or other barrier to active transportation.  We define this area by I-630 to the north, University Ave. to the west, US70B (Asher) to the south, and the Union Pacific tracks to the east (Fig. 1).  However, accessibility east of the Union Pacific tracks via the 12th Street bike lanes and north of I-630 via proposed bike facilities on Jonesboro substantially increase the practical impact of the UALR Trail (Fig. 3).

Demographics

The UALR Trail Focal Area includes 14 complete Census Block Groups (CBG) and portions of three more (Table 1).

Household income: Not only the is the median CBG household income in the focal area lower than the Little Rock average, but every CBG in the focal area has a household income lower than the Little Rock average (Table 1).

Home value: Not only is the median CBG home value in the focal area lower than the Little Rock average, but every CBG in the focal area has a home value lower than the Little Rock average (Table 1).

Racial demographics: Not only is the median percent black population higher than the Little Rock average, but every CBG in the focal area has a higher percent black population than the Little Rock average (Table 1).

Census Block Groups tend to be divided by arterial streets, estimation of the demographics of the UALR Trail Focal Area is possible, but readers are encouraged to review the available data to better understand the limits of this interpretation. The UALR Trail would provide accessibility to an area of Little Rock even more economically disadvantaged and with an even larger proportion of black residents than the Tri-Creek Greenway Focal Area (Table 3).
