LRPD Officers responded to a shooting call for service in the area of West Markham and University at 9:09 p.m., on Sunday, June 8, 2025. When officers arrived, they located 36-year-old Antonio Simuel, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. MEMS responded and transported the victim to a local hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries. Officers determined the incident occurred at 3 Sandhurst Circle. Once at the referenced location, the scene was secured, and Homicide Detectives were notified. Later, the Pulaski County Coroner transported the deceased body to the Arkansas State Crime Lab for an autopsy and next of kin was notified.

The Crime Scene Search Unit responded shortly after Homicide Detectives. During the course of the investigation, 27-year-old Akila Dewitt was developed as a suspect. She was located and transported to the Major Crimes Division for further investigation. Ms. Dewitt was subsequently charged with Capital Murder and transported to PCRJ without incident. This investigation is ongoing and occurred in the Southwest Division.
