33rd and MLK Homicide)

Little Rock Police Officers from the 12th Street Division responded to a disturbance with a weapon call in the area of 1514 W. 31st Street on Monday, November 7, 2022. Communications received the call at 5:33 p.m. and advised officers they received several calls in relation to an unknown subject observed in the area with a firearm. When officers arrived, they circulated the area and discovered an unknown black male near the intersection of 33rd and Dr. Martin Luther King Blvd suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. MEMS and Rescue responded and pronounced the victim dead at the scene. The Pulaski County Coroner responded and transported the body to the State Crime Lab for an autopsy and positive identification.

Homicide Detectives and the Crime Scene Search Unit responded to the scene and began a preliminary investigation after canvassing the area, watching surveillance, and speaking to witnesses. During the course of the investigation, Michael Brown, 47, of Little Rock, and Shannon Fells, 46, of Little Rock, were developed as suspects. Mr. Brown was mirandized and declined to provide a recorded statement. Ms. Fells was mirandized, waived her rights, and provided a recorded statement. Both Mr. Brown and Ms. Fells were subsequently charged with 1st Degree Murder and transported to PCRJ. This investigation is ongoing and occurred in the 12th Street Division.

#Update: The victim has been positively identified as 36-year-old Derek Mack of Little Rock.
