On Tuesday, June 10, 2025, at 10:54 am, Northwest Patrol Officers responded to a shooting at the referenced location. When officers arrived, they located 19-year-old year old Kayla Payne, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. MEMS and RESCUE responded and transported Payne to a local hospital where she succumbed to her injuries a short time later. The scene was secured and LRPD Homicide Detectives were notified and responded. Later, the Pulaski County Coroner transported the deceased body to the Arkansas State Crime Lab for an autopsy and the next of kin was later notified.

The Crime Scene Search Unit responded shortly after Detectives, and a preliminary investigation was under way. During the course of the investigation, Quran Johnson, 28, of Little Rock, was developed as a suspect. Mr. Johnson was subsequently arrested, questioned, and charged with Capital Murder. This investigation is ongoing and occurred in the Northwest Division.
