The City of Little Rock continues to be a leader in Arkansas as the first municipality to launch an online open data portal and is continuing its efforts to education our residents on the resources available to them with events such as the Second Annual Open Data Day.

The City is inviting information junkies to stop by the Willie L Hinton Neighborhood Resource Center Saturday, March 2 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. for the Second Annual Little Rock Open Data Day to learn about all the information available with just a few clicks including data on:

  • The number of potholes in an area
  • The frequency and type of code violations for different parts of the city
  • What planning permits have been issued
  • Police activity in any City neighborhood
  • Business licenses issued

Residents, college and high school students, as well as members of the media are invited to come learn how to use the City of Little Rock’s Open Data, Citizen Connect and Mapping Application sites through hands-on learning activities including data scavenger hunts.

“All you need to bring is your tablet or laptop and your curiosity and join us for our Second Annual Open Data Day event in Little Rock,” said Melissa Bridges, the City’s Performance and Innovation Coordinator. “It is an opportunity to reach more of our community and teach them about the information resources they have available and potentially build new, innovative solutions to issues in our city using open data.”

To register for the event, which is free, but has limited seating, visit: https://www.eventbrite.com/o/city-managers-office-16761978220

International Open Data Day is an annual celebration where groups from around the world create local events on the day to show the benefits of open data and encourage its use in government, business and civil society.
