City of Little Rock to Hold Career Fair March 11)

Job seekers will get the opportunity to connect with representatives from the City of Little Rock’s 14 departments at a career fair set from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday, March 11, at the Southwest Community Center at 6401 Baseline Road.

Those attending the free fair will be able to apply on-site for positions currently available at the City or submit an interest card to receive notification when a job opportunity becomes available in a particular area. Application kiosks and general employment information will be available. Participants will also receive information about volunteer opportunities in departments such as Parks & Recreation and the Little Rock Zoo. The Zoo will bring education animals to give short presentations.

The Police and Fire departments will be available to answer any questions about recruit academies scheduled for this year and provide information about the career options and benefits available for police officers and firefighters.

In 2016, City officials announced a residency incentive for new employees that offers $2,500 to those who move to Little Rock and rent and $5,000 to those who move to the City and buy a house.

New police officers receive a $5,000 signing bonus upon completion of the 24-week recruit academy.

“The City of Little Rock employs approximately 2,000 full-time and 1,000 part-time people, and even more in the summer months,” Employment Services Manager Kathleen Walker said. “The career fair lets candidates get a feel for who we are—a dynamic workplace with a family-like atmosphere.”

The fair is open to job seekers in every stage of their careers, from those just entering the workforce who are exploring career options to experienced professionals looking for new opportunities in a public sector environment. Teenagers looking for summer employment or who would like to obtain information about career choices also are encouraged to attend.

There are full-time, part-time, and summer job opportunities available. Summer employment includes positions for lifeguards, parks pioneers, and Little Rock Zoo workers.

The City is an equal opportunity employer. Benefits for full-time employees include:

  • Generous Paid Time Off
  • Great Retirement System
