City Opens Three Cooling Centers for Residents Seeking Relief from Heat

LITTLE ROCK – Little Rock residents seeking relief from oppressive heat this summer may visit the City's cooling centers. The cooling centers are located at Dunbar Community Center, Southwest Community Center, and West Central Community Center.

Cooling center hours are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. and Saturday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The cooling center at Dunbar Community Center will also be open on Sundays from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. this summer.
 
Anyone who needs a safe, comfortable place to cool off may visit any of those three cooling centers during periods of hot weather this summer. 
 
Dunbar Community Center is located at 1001 W. 16th St., Southwest Community Center is at 6401 Baseline Road, and West Central Community Center is at 8616 Colonel Glenn Road.

The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for Little Rock through Friday evening. Heat index values are expected to reach up to 110 degrees.

City officials encourage residents to check on their neighbors during period of extreme heat, especially those who are over 65, children under 4 or anyone with a disability or medical condition. Children and pets should never be left alone in parked vehicles, and residents should limit outdoor activities as much as possible. Anyone outdoors in the heat should stay hydrated, avoiding liquids with high amounts of sugar. Pets should always have an adequate supply of water.
