At 8:10pm, on October 15, 2025, 12th Street patrol officers responded to the 3600 block of West Roosevelt Road for a vehicle vs. pedestrian collision. Officers stated they were waved down by a person passing by who located a pedestrian, later identified as 53-year-old Scott McDaniel, lying on the roadway appearing to have been struck by a vehicle. McDaniel was unresponsive and transported by MEMS to a local hospital with critical injuries. Then, with the assistance of the Real-Time Crime Center, the suspect vehicle was located and a short time later the driver, 34-year-old Deshawn Cheatham, was taken into custody and transported to the Major Crimes Division for questioning. A patrol supervisor arrived on scene and notified Accident Reconstruction Officers who responded to process the scene, take photographs, collect evidence and take measurements. On October 21, 2025, doctors notified LRPD officers that McDaniel succumbed to his injuries just after midnight and next of kin was notified.
At this point in the investigation, charges have been filed for the collision and could be upgraded pending a comprehensive review. This investigation is ongoing.
