On Sunday December 3, 2023, patrol officers with the 12th Street Division responded to 1607 West 22nd Street in reference to shots fired call for service. Upon arrival, officers discovered two black juvenile male subjects suffering from apparent gunshot wounds who succumbed to injuries at the scene. Officers secured the area and notified Homicide Detectives. Later, the Pulaski County Coroner transported the deceased bodies to the Arkansas State Crime Lab for an autopsy and positive identification. The next of kin notification is pending the outcome of the State Crime Lab findings. 

The Crime Scene Search Unit responded shortly after Homicide Detectives. A preliminary investigation began as detectives canvassed the area for witnesses and video surveillance. This investigation is ongoing and occurred in the 12th Street Division.

#Update: The victims have been identified as 13-year-old Donta Gurley and 14-year-old Naqualo Smith.
