LITTLE ROCK – Mayor Frank Scott, Jr. today announced the distribution plan for nearly $510,000 raised through Little Rock Cares to support Little Rock residents impacted by the March 31 tornado.

Approximately 60 percent of the donations received to date, or about $310,000, will be allocated for direct grants to Little Rock residents impacted by the March 31 EF-3 tornado. Another 40 percent, or about $200,000, will be distributed to various nonprofit agencies that supported the City by assisting residents through emergency response and recovery.

Mayor Scott provided details of the plan at a City Hall news conference updating residents on the recovery effort.

“People from around the world have offered up their time, resources and their money to help Little Rock rebuild stronger and better than ever,” Mayor Scott said. “With Little Rock Cares, more than 500 individual donors have asked us to use their donations to support and strengthen the people of this City. I’m proud to say that our Little Rock Cares distribution plan will ensure that every single penny will go toward tornado recovery in Little Rock.”

Under the distribution plan, these organizations are expected to receive funds: Immanuel Baptist Church, $40,000; Goodwill Industries of Arkansas, $25,000; American Red Cross, $25,000; United Way, $25,000; Arkansas Baptist Disaster Relief, $25,000; Calvary Baptist Church, $20,000; Samaritan’s Purse, $20,000; The Van, $20,000.

In order to receive a disbursement, the organizations will be required to agree to a binding Memorandum of Understanding that all funds provided from Little Rock Cares donations will be allocated specifically for tornado relief in Little Rock.

The City of Little Rock will select a third-party administrator to manage distribution of individual grants funded by Little Rock Cares. The City will select a qualified administrator to develop and manage the application and award process for the individual payments.

Little Rock Cares is a nonprofit charity established during the Covid-19 pandemic. It was re-purposed as a means for raising money for tornado survivors. The fund pays no administrative expenses, so 100 percent of donations are directed to disaster assistance.
