Meet Assistant Chief Troy Ellison
Assistant Chief Troy Ellison hired on with the Little Rock Police Department in May 1995 as a Patrol Officer. He served in this capacity until 1998 after being assigned to the Special Investigations Division (SID) as a Detective until 2012. In 2012, he was promoted to Sergeant and worked as the Training Division - Background and Recruitment Sergeant until 2014. In 2014, he was assigned to the Field Services Bureau in the Downtown and Southwest Patrol Divisions. Assistant Chief Ellison was promoted to Lieutenant in 2016 and supervised in the Special Operations Division of the Field Services Bureau, before returning to SID as the Intelligence Lieutenant in 2018. While in SID, he commanded the Intelligence Unit, Mayor’s Detail, Gun Crimes Unit, Vice Detail and several federal task force detectives.
In 2021, Assistant Chief Ellison was promoted to Major and served as the Commander over the Special Operations Division. He was the commander over the SWAT, School Resource Officers, Special Response Unit, K-9, Airport, Special Events, Youth Programs, Police Youth Live-In Camp, Motors Unit, Street Crimes, and Hit & Run Investigations.
On March 24, 2023, then Major Ellison was promoted to the rank of Assistant Chief of Police - Executive Bureau. He supervised the Training Division, Headquarters Division, and the Professional Standards Division – Internal Affairs, FOIA, and Accreditation Unit.
Assistant Chief Ellison was born and raised in Little Rock and graduated from Little Rock Central High School. Upon graduation, he attended Grambling State University (LA) and received his bachelor’s degree in organizational management from John Brown University. He is a member of the Arkansas Association of Chiefs of Police, the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP), and the National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives (NOBLE). He is also active in the community, in civic and service organizations, including serving as the past president and active member of the Little Rock (AR) Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. and he sits on the Board of Directors of the Diamond Foundation and the Motivate One Foundation.
