Details

As a signature event of the National Environmental Education Foundation (NEEF), National Public Lands Day (NPLD) fosters a strong connection between people and the environment, cultivating the next generation of environmental stewards. Held on the fourth Saturday in September each year, NPLD is also a “Fee-Free Day,” where entrance fees are waived at national parks and public lands. Supported by federal and state agencies, corporate sponsors, and nonprofits, this event ensures that our natural spaces remain resilient for generations to come, encouraging widespread volunteerism and environmental engagement.

The theme for NPLD 2024 is “Together for Tomorrow.” This is a call for all, from trail maintenance to tree planting and beach clean-ups to forest restoration, volunteers of all ages and abilities, regardless of their background or experience, will come together for the common goal of stewarding America’s natural resources for future generations.

We are thrilled to announce that this year’s NPLD event will be held at Rock Creek Trail and the surrounding streets starting at 9 a.m. The 2023 tornado severely impacted Rock Creek Trail and needs significant restoration. Join us as we cut back invasive species, clear the trail, and pick up litter. Lunch will be served at 11:30 a.m. Please sign up so we can accurately plan for the event.

Check-in Location: Trailhead behind the strip mall.
