How can you walk, bike, and drive more safely?  Explore this page to find out!  The video below is a good overview of safety tips for riding on the road.

Figure 1.  This video, produced by the League of American Bicyclists, is a somewhat campy presentation of a lot of good information.

BikePed Laws

Understanding and abiding by the laws that apply to people when they drive a bike or walk on our streets helps all road users anticipate bicycle and pedestrian movements and makes our streets safer.  Click the link to learn City and State BikePed laws.

Formal Education Opportunities

Friendly Driver Program
Teaching bicyclists how to safely use city streets is important, but it only solves half of the problem. This is a pilot program funded by AARP to offer the course to drivers within the City of Little Rock for no charge. Any licensed driver is encouraged to attend.  Sign up today!

SMART Cycling Class
Bicycle Advocacy of Central Arkansas (BACA) has committed to offering at least two League of American Bicyclist SMART Cycling courses in Central Arkansas per year.  This is a full day class in which riders learn practical bicycle safety and competency both in the classroom and on the road.  If you are interested in participating in this course, please contact Diane Barton at

Commuter Mentoring
BikePed Little Rock, in partnership with the Arkansas Bike Club, is starting a commuter practicum.  It is a short, no drop ride appropriate for ALL skill levels in which I and others will help teach people new to riding on the road how to drive your bike safely and comfortably.  It is the last Tuesday of every month at 6pm in various locations.  See the page for ride locations and skills.  For any questions, please contact John Landosky,

Traffic Skills 101 Online
This online course has much of the same content as the classroom portion of the LAB SMART Cycling Class.

Bike Rodeo
BACA's League Certified Instructors also put on bike rodeos regularly.  A bike rodeo is a pop-up, short bike safety and skills course for children.  If you are interested in participating in this course, please contact Diane Barton at

League Certified Instructor Course (August 31st - September 2nd 2018)
BACA is organizing a course to train people to become League Certified Instructors in 2018.  This intense, three-day course trains participants to be League Certified Instructors (who are then qualified to teach SMART Cycling classes, bike rodeos, and other League of American Bicyclist courses).  If you are interested in participating in this course, please contact Diane Barton at

Washington Elementary Bicycle Education After School Program
In Spring 2017, BikePed Little Rock, in partnership with BACA, Recycle Bikes for Kids, LRSD, and Washington Elementary, created an launched an after school bicycle education program.  If your school would be interested in teaching this program with the intention of considering it for an on-going after-school program, please contact John Landosky,
