LITTLE ROCK (March 8, 2018) – Mayor Mark Stodola announced today that Portland (OR) Mayor Ted Wheeler will be the keynote speaker for the Ninth Annual City of Little Rock Sustainability Summit set to take place March 29, 2018, from 8:30 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at the LEED Gold certified Robinson Center.

The Summit provides Central Arkansas residents the opportunity to learn, network, and leverage their sustainability efforts with the efforts of others. Each year, attendees are provided an update on work being done with regard to the various goals of the 2020 Sustainability Roadmap, along with the presentation of the Sustainability Commission’s Sustain the Rock Awards, Mayor Mark Stodola’s popular annual welcome video, and a keynote address by a national speaker.

The City of Portland has long been a leader in sustainable planning and practices and that has continued under Mayor Wheeler’s leadership with his announcement last year of Portland’s commitment to 100 percent clean energy by 2050. However, Mayor Wheeler will bring the message that initiatives like these must involve the whole community: government, businesses, organizations and households working together.

“I know our Summit attendees will benefit from hearing Mayor Wheeler’s perspective on Portland’s comprehensive and pioneering efforts surrounding the issues of climate change and sustainability as our community continues to gain momentum toward being a leader in our own region,” Mayor Stodola stated. “The Sustainability Summit is a can’t miss event for community members interested in learning more about this effort.”

While the event is free to attend, registration on Eventbrite is required and full event details can be found at the registration link.

Melinda Glasgow, the City of Little Rock’s Sustainability Officer said, “Every year around 250 people attend this event and leave more knowledgeable about sustainability work at the City and more empowered to support positive environmental change throughout their daily lives.”
